Day 2: 21 July - Coach & Horses Bridge

Sunshine and a restful spot for a Sunday.  It was an easy decision to stay here and move on towards Burton upon Trent tomorrow.

Catnap at Coach & Horses Bridge - her newly painted bow looks a treat

 On the canal towards Egginton

Fields of sweetcorn framed by bindweed lilies

We often see The Flying Eagle - shared a lock with her when Jan's Dad was with us in 2018

Looking forward to this new circular walk around the nature reserve

We've often wondered about the origin of this elegant canalside house near Egginton - it's High Bridge House, a 'lengthsman's' house built in 1777, soon after the opening of the Trent & Mersey Canal.  A lengthsman was responsible for keeping his designated stretch of canal tidy and navigable.

Luxuriant wildflowers along the towpath

Bindweed flowers seem particularly huge this year

Evening walk to High Bridge
